CHCF’s vision is for every Californian to have access to behavioral health care when and where they need it.
The behavioral health field is constantly evolving. New treatments and evidence-based interventions delivered by compassionate providers are making a real difference. Still, there are unacceptable disparities in both access and outcomes based on race, language, and other factors. And unmet needs can be intensified by poverty and California’s affordable housing shortage.
CHCF believes better outcomes for patients and communities are possible when we focus on improvements that support a seamless, no-wrong-door approach to care.
We invite you to envision a better behavioral health system with us — one where every Californian is able to seamlessly access the care that meets their needs and improves their quality of life.
This knowledge center features our latest research, data, and policy analysis on:
- Models of care that meet patient needs and provide easy access
- Policy improvements across the behavioral health system, especially care funded through Medi-Cal and other public programs
- The behavioral health workforce, including the role of community-connected paraprofessionals, to improve access to care
- Experiences of people with serious behavioral health conditions — and how providers and system leaders can better respond to their needs
- The role of data and measurement in behavioral health care, and how they can be used to improve patient experience and outcomes
CHCF also works on behavioral health in other areas. See our work on improving maternal mental health care.
